METRONORMATIVITY IN MEDIA

Across media, the rural is depicted as hick-filled and hate-filled, a lethal combination for LGBTQ people. Such images of rural place reinforce the assumption that LGBTQ people cannot live safe, happy, and fulfilling lives in rural areas.

 

This section of the website includes examples and analyses of metronormativity in movies, TV shows, documentaries, and even the work of gay rights activists. Some of these clips appear in In Plain Sight and some do not, so read on for information you won't find in the film!
